Baystate Health HVAC Technician in Westfield, Massachusetts

Summary:

Under the direction of the Supervisor for the HVAC Shop, perform various duties involving inspection and maintenance of mechanical refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and components throughout Baystate Medical Center. You will work directly under the supervision of a qualified Senior HVAC Tech to assemble, install, service, and repair air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating units.

Promotes and participates in team-problem solving approach with coworkers and other Engineering staff. Assists coworkers in resolving technical, scheduling, and customer satisfaction issues. Provides technical support to other departments in matters pertaining to HVAC systems and reviews for new additions or modifications to building HVAC systems. Support the Organization's Mission and Operating Principles.

Job Responsibilities:

1) Utilize the preventative maintenance Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for scheduling and tracking of HVAC equipment preventive maintenance and service work orders

2) Perform required preventative and corrective maintenance on air handling units, packaged DX units, PTAC units, fan coil units, fans, and pumps, including filter changes, belt changes, lubrication, motor, shaft and sheave replacement, bearing replacement, motor and drive alignment, damper operation, coil and unit casing cleaning, pump seal replacement.

3) Perform required preventative and corrective maintenance on refrigerators, and ice machines including cleaning, sterilization, and mechanical and refrigeration repairs

4) Assist senior-level techs in the HVAC/refrigeration system diagnostic troubleshooting and repairs of refrigeration circuits for various equipment with various refrigerant types and blends. Use manifold gauge set, pressure/temperature chart, and temperature measuring devices. Pressure test, evacuate, and charge refrigeration and air conditioning equipment as required.

5) Perform brazing, soldering, and press fitting joining of various piping systems

6) Be the HVAC team member of the hospital Room-A-Day program, cleaning, servicing, and repairing HVAC-related equipment in patient rooms

7) Entry-level knowledge of HVAC control systems, including pneumatic, electric, and direct digital controls (DDC), to troubleshoot equipment problems

8) Use a variety of hand and power tools. Read mechanical HVAC drawings and electrical schematics for troubleshooting purposes. Use the psychometric chart to understand air property transformation through HVAC cycles

9) Monitor and maintain necessary levels of parts and supplies related to heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment. Procurement by means of available vendors in accordance with hospital purchasing procedures.

Preferred Education:

Vocational Training 1 year HVAC Certificate

Required Work Experience:

2-3 years of direct experience maintaining and troubleshooting HVAC systems.

Experience with computerized building automation systems is a plus.

Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

Solid problem-solving skills.

Preferred Work Experience:

EPA Certification- Universal Basic electrical knowledge

Skills and Competencies:

Basic computer and math skills. Ability to read, write and speak English. Ability to work with minimum supervision. The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of employee engagement practices and diversity
